How could i have defeated him?
W6 and Scorpion were the MVPs... i made proper use of A8 with F11 to clear what was impossible to kill otherwise... i rushed when i had my chance because i would lose in a long game...

It was complicated, i may not get in depth of what happened, but you should have charged a8 one turn before, so you are forcing Plynx to make a defensive move, and not kill the elephant
Myrfun | 2015-10-04 10:35:27 |
Maybe it's a little better.
The first chain lightning was the problem, after that there was no coming back.
The chain lightning doesn't kill anything, applies no pressure, takes away air elemental which you critically need, and since you were planning to armageddon anyway, amounts to you paying twice for the damage it did do.
Other things to consider in the first few turns are meditating in a slightly different order so that you can get your wolverine in play sooner, and playing spider open. Cooler | 2015-10-04 20:35:20 |

... BTW, was it a misclick or intentional? I mean placing Forest Sprite into slot 2 against Slowpok in 1/4 final: https://youtu.be/2l_16mJxazE?t=23m49s
I guess the motive for which he played e3 in front of free slot is for 2 reasons: he had in his mind to play control5 + fire9, the turtle had 16hp, after c5 the turtle hp is 13hp, inferno would kill exactly the turtle. The second reason is e3 certainly would kill the rabbit in the next turn so he reduced the chance that the rabbit respawned in front of empty slot. But a5 was a nice answer. Now im making a more concerted effort at analyzing it:
1st mistake: playing when tired vs Plynx.
2nd mistake: I knew or already should have known that he had scorpion, and that i had A8 which does not help with presence and control in an efficient manner; i condemned myself to get that W5 killed by scorpion and losing the board. Also, opening W5 instead of Medidation means i did not have forest spider ready at second turn, and that meditation only served to generate a meaningless mana advantage in a dead board on my side.
3rd mistake: Wolverine was panic mode to regain some kind of presence and weaken the W9. This means i sacrificed Basilisk for a stupid Wolverine.
These 3 mistakes conditioned me to have to clear with F11, and most beast creatures survive this kind of early destruct plays (See, Energy Beast).
The rest was just playing out the destiny of those early 3 mistakes... Elephant in front of Scorpion? Probably a better idea. Would it had won me the game? Probably not.

It was intentional, to create a challenging game (along with Water 2). Slowpok | 2015-10-04 23:25:06 |

Plynx, if you need challenge - do not play time class ;) Modified by Slowpok on 2015-10-06 08:45:35 GrimJ0ker | 2015-10-04 23:25:36 |

It seems pretty arrogant during a q- final Modified by GrimJ0ker on 2015-10-05 04:28:54 HeadphonesGirl | 2015-10-05 01:05:21 |

It seems pretty arrogant during a final
I'm sure it wasn't intended but I agree this could easily be perceived as an insult to the opponent's skill in a tournament setting.

Of course it was a misclick (1 slot away)!
Sadly this misclick presented me Slowpok in Semi and not him...so our last reunion is not completed...
Btw superfunny Phonegirl, I am still not obsessed with the oldye demon called love...but to see that he is not perfect makes this more possible xD...
Grats double-champion Slowpok for being perfectly boring as always!zzzzzzzzzzzz
1st mistake: playing when tired vs Plynx. Wanna join team and playing when more tired vs Plynx for more fun? CyberneticPony | 2015-10-05 13:25:59 |

You are all such vultures, since you obviously cant feel superior with in-game skill you want to try to posture as morally superior. HeadphonesGirl | 2015-10-06 02:56:50 |

I don't think anyone is being morally superior or arrogant for that matter. Easy to misinterpret things over text without factoring in people's character. Here's what I think the breakdown is. Plynx has said before that he likes to try to understand each card in a class by using it extensively so he knows all the times when it is useful, and so to that end he sometimes plays in ways that seem suboptimal at the time to create opportunities to test things. He's also pointed out that he tends to show up only at tournaments these days because it is a guaranteed way for him to get to match against good players, whereas it's really hit or miss just going in the lobby. That is quite understandable at his level. However I think the way he put it made it sound to some like he was disrespecting his opponent by saying he had to gimp himself to make the game fair. It's understandable it would be interpreted that way but given what I know of Plynx (he is always respectful in my experience) I am sure it was not what he meant. So I think we should not have any fights over this.

I'm pretty sure most of the jabs in this thread were done in good fun.

That's correct;

It's understandable it would be interpreted that way but given what I know of Plynx (he is always respectful in my experience) I am sure it was not what he meant.
How can gimping yourself make a game fair? Anyway, it's not to gimp myself, but to systematically challenge my beliefs and learn about things I don't yet know. I'm always playing my best, but that means an unwavering commitment to leveling up as much as a player as I can in each and every game. Winning a game is nice, and losing can be painful, but learning is something I absolutely require of myself.
It's a normal part of how I play, so I normally don't mention it. Cooler asked about the specific move, so I unfortunately had to say that it was a scenario-creating move. Sorry if I offended anyone.
Good thinking. While W5 isn't a terrible opening, it isn't great if you also want to meditate soon after, since you only started with 4 air mana. Opening Fire 1 makes more use of your stranded fire house, but opening mediate gives you a strong line through turtle and then use Fire 1 to get through to Air 11. No matter what you need B3 though.
3rd mistake: Wolverine was panic mode to regain some kind of presence and weaken the W9. This means i sacrificed Basilisk for a stupid Wolverine.
I definitely think early Wolverine is the better play here; just open instead of blocking. You don't have a lot to go on in terms of creatures, and how long to you want to sit on your beast creatures and get beat up by W9 and friends before you play basilisk? Your problem is your giant gap in fire mana between 5 and 11, leaving you unable to use fire proactively.

How can gimping yourself make a game fair?
"I have admitted you are better than I am!" "Then why are you smiling?" "Because I know something you do not know." "And what is that?" "I am not left handed!" (This is the interpretation I was discussing, not what I think you meant. )
