I have the Spectromancer v1.03h from the playhouse site. As I understand it there are 3 distrobutors: here, playhouse and Steam and that they are different builds. Is there a preferred build? Why? I know the activation key only works from the site version from where you bought it from.
I pretty much enjoy the heck out of this game, best $20 I spent on a game. Best feature, the ability to back out at any time and continue later without having to start all over. I noticed today there is a new version 1.1 in bata for people to try. Is this to be a new paid release or an upgrade to what we currently own? Will it be released to the 2 other distobution places or just to this site. Thanks for any answers.

There are 2 different builds: one is distributed by Playgreenhouse and another one - by others (Steam, Impulse, this site and others). Both builds are equal, the only difference is DRM (purchase and protection system).

OK more general questions.
As I read years worth of posts here I see many comments on "banned combos". Are these hard coded banned combos or the "gentleman's agreement" type bans? I would say for me, no way I could remember them all and not that anyone would have anything to fear from me if I accidentlally played one. I did see read a bit on the upper level players agreeing either on a gentleman's complete Death ban or the one card (can't remember what it is) as it is too powerful.
As a side note for the upper level players. I can understand geting into the nth degree as to cost vrs damage vrs board control to play the perfect game. Do you still enjoy the play or does it become to mechanical. Having cards A, B, C menans play 1, 2, 3, to get the bast result? It's looks like all the person becomes is the mouse clicker as the cards dictate what, when, where the next card is to be played. Almost looks as if being an incompetent player like me is more "fun".

The banned combos (such as Meditation + Stone Rain or Armageddon + Greater Demon) are hard-coded banned. You cannot draw them together in the same hand.
The game doesn't become any less fun at higher levels, at least in my experience. Even as you develop good heuristics and try to make the "best play", no one has gotten so far as to know the best set of steps for every possible draw, and furthermore you have to pay attention to what your opponent is doing, and try to read them. It's like Poker; even someone who understands all the mathematical probabilities doesn't become a machine operator, but rather remains a player who needs to make the best out of what he is dealt and try to outsmart the other player(s).

its toons of fun play really competiteeve game at decent level (means, if you play decent or winning) but very frustrating if you're hardly losing.

You and I, volt, I think we are on the same page. I often wonder how much fun it could really be to become a 'calculator' as opposed to a player. I think that continued upgrades and a growing card pool will keep that from happening for even the most mathematically minded. I am excited for 1.1 to become official. Does anyone know of an expected release date on that?

I haven't tried the beta yet so I'm not sure what the 1.1 will bring. I have done a few games in the past that I did all the tricks, processes, etc to the nth degree for the best score, etc. I wound up not having as much fun going that route. Not to disparage what others like to do, I mean I am bettering my card playing by reading the experts posts.
One house I have to go back and re-visit is the Holy house. I hate that house with a passion and cannot seem to play it well at all. Too see it considered by most as the top 1 or 2 tells me there is something there I am grossly misplaying.

I have the same lol. I hate holy and it feels overpowered to me but somehow I can't seem to get much wins with it.

Yeah you have to choose the house that fits your personality. Control: you are a douchebag Holy: you are selfish Death: you are a serial killer Mech: you punch everything Illusion: you like hiking, long walks on the beach | HeadphonesGirl | 2010-02-02 04:54:50 |
garcia consistently entertains!

Control: you are a douchebag
Holy: you are selfish
Death: you are a serial killer
Mech: you punch everything
Illusion: you like hiking, long walks on the beach OJ, I almost spity coffee all over the monitor! Great house descriptions. I must admit I tend to prefer to play (which does not equate to winning) control, mech, and then illusion.
OK, I remember I read it somewhere but I have lost grasp on the terminology "fast cards". Does this mean cheap and quick to get into play or something else? I think I remember it having some relationship to the amount of direct damage to a card opposing it.
