Looks like this is shaping up to be as great of an idea as it sounded from the start.

Please tell Plynx "fuck you" for me for completely disappearing all of a sudden (even from YIM) and making me think something horrible had happened to him all these years. Then tell him I miss him dearly and would love to talk and he should reach out to me!
I saw him playing sebastian.he won nearly every game. Great player... Is se6astian Kroma or Grimjoker?
Jeronimo | 2015-01-05 07:06:38 |
I saw some of Plynx's matches. The doubt we had about 2 months ago... about how would Plynx perform against nowadays top players... was widely answered with his tournament performance.
mamoulian | 2015-01-05 07:41:05 |
Plynx won yesterday the tournament. Barely loose a game. The funny thing is that he doesn't even know the new cards... insane :D

I am very impressed by how he managed to win the tournament without knowing the new cards. Now the next challenge for him would be to play with all classes like top10 players and not only Dominator, Illusion and Time. He will have no difficulty. But in my opinion he has already proven to be a genius. HeadphonesGirl | 2015-01-05 13:07:00 |
Yup. Plynx had a way of seeing ahead in the game that is unlike anything I've ever seen from another player. Just this totally smothering way of knowing exactly what was going to happen no matter what you did. Glad to hear he still has this touch and I'm not just exaggerating the memory.
This makes me much more excited for the tournament of champions! Wavelength | 2015-01-06 07:54:24 |
I was going to say that Plynx is like the Richard Hatch of Spectromancer (the original genius who recognized the game before the show itself did), but after playing a series with him tonight, I realize that he is more like Richard Hatch combinned with Ken Jennings combined with Yami Yugi.
Yup.
chaosLord | 2015-01-07 00:39:25 |
Basically like neo from the matrix, just sees right through the game.
Jeronimo | 2015-01-07 03:42:01 |
Hey Grim, now that you have seen plenty of Plynx's games... What is your opinion in percentages from his overall playstyle? In the past you analyzed I was: 15% agg, 35% mana, 50% def, and for SeaLeta your impression was he 50% agg, 25% mana, 25% def.
From what I saw (tournament and battles day), I'd estimate Plynx: 40% agg, 30% mana, 30% def.
All-round player he will adopt the strategy that counters yours, but playing freely he prefers to push with middle-tier creatures such as turtles, trolls, barguls... also accompanied by W2, A2.
He will play for "mana" or "life" accumulation if discovers your intentions (by analyzing your first 5 moves). It's like a basic rock-paper-scissors... where Plynx wins because has faster intuition than you, and so he forces you to the "card order of play" that best suits him.
There are of course more factors around, like the classes match-up and the cards draw (who got A8 screw? or healing screw W6/W10?), but overall that's my opinion about Plynx's shocking success.
That explains why he wins even without knowing the "old" new values or new cards in game. He just has to know... what you plan to do with basic house cards (rusher, elementalist, mirror). Modified by Jeronimo on 2015-01-07 05:06:50 GrimJ0ker | 2015-01-07 13:34:35 |
I totally agree Jero. 40-30-30 dna play
Yesterday we played a very interesting control mirror match, which lasted about 15 minutes, after which I won, but not without a headache (4 A.M. , yes..i'm crazy ), because probably the dominator class is his best and he knows every trick in control vs control game. Playing against plynx is a chess match, you have to predict the moves before him and try to surprise him with unconventional play, which he does.
He is constantly alert to the amount of damages available, trying to get there first to give checkmate the opponent. he loves a lot to hide the damage by playing stronger creatures in vertical slot duels, he also carefully inserting creatures attack value multiple of life of the creature in the opposite slot. To win against him, you have to give your best on every aspect of the game. Also he choose carefully when to insert a creature in front of an empty slot trying to inflict damages turn by turn. His playstyle in the tournament was not true, because he had to change his dna game to win, that only very few players are able to do. If you try to push on the accelerator, the majority of players trying to defend himself, instead he often reflects on how to push harder than you.
To play more and more games in a very concentrated way he takes a break from the game after about ten games.
ps: I also have noticed he loves more than other players to play air1, in some games with time class he played Time2 in first round against the opponent mana gainer, honestly this was the only move that I disapproved in his spectacular play. It's kind of amazing that he just shot up to level 40 in 3 days after not playing for years. If this rate continues he might take back the top spot before the tournament even arrives. Wavelength | 2015-01-07 15:58:41 |
I'm genuinely interested to see what happens if Plynx (or anyone else) - reaches level 60. This is the point where he'd theoretically receive 0 XP per win against the lowest-level player he's allowed to face in a rated duel, unless I've misunderstood the algorithm for determining XP gains.
Claudob | 2015-01-07 16:11:36 |
Why do you need XP? Play for his pleasure.
chaosLord | 2015-01-07 16:41:21 |
To grimjoker's point, he once told me that he tries to do things unconventional for himself, so he doesn't become a victim of his own playstyle. He experiments with cards, with things he wouldnt normally do, and with skipping turns etc. Also, he mentioned that he can use your playstyle against you, like if he knows you wouldn't use a card like spider, it can be an advantage for him if he chose to use that information. He also has a good big picture view of the game, evaluating his scaling damage (elementals geddon etc) to decide if he can win a long game or must go for a quicker win. Finally, he understand the cards really well, their cynergies, and thinks far ahead. This is all based off of past conversations with him, but definitely he thinks deepr about the game than most people (or everyone) and sees it differently.
He once played a lightning wall turn 1 or 2, against a slot where i would probably place a holy 3, as death. I thought it was a mistake, and he explained that now I cant play midsize creatures bc death 5, big creatures bc of death 7, and small creatures bc of death 8. He did win that game. But he also has a good big picture strategic view of the game, on top of the other skills. Modified by chaosLord on 2015-01-07 16:48:36 Wavelength | 2015-01-07 17:03:30 |
All of what ChaosLord just said is totally true, but in addition to the superior strategy and theorycrafting, I noticed that Plynx is also really, really good at brute-force calculation. It was easier to see in an Observer game than when I was actually playing him (when he steamrolled me), but I saw one game where he was in a life crunch with Rejuvenation (at about 15 Earth mana) and Ancient Giant (with 9 Control mana) in his hand. The opponent would win unless Plynx healed, blocked a slot, or killed a creature. I wondered where Plynx would place his Ancient Giant, knowing that during his next turn he'd have to heal. I wasn't sure who would take the match. Plynx paused for about 10 seconds, then used Poisonous Cloud. What?! It killed one 1HP creature, yes, but it gave his opponent the next play... and there were probably a dozen different cards that could reduce his life to 0 (or break a slot and have a creature reduce it to 0). Somehow, within just a few seconds Plynx had taken a mental inventory of every card that could possibly finish him, and ascertained that his opponent could not possibly have it. I was amazed how quickly he did this. Two turns later, Plynx won the game.

After all this hype, I feel like the match of all time would be Plynx vs. Kroma.
Kroma's the only other player who seems to have a similar level of long-term prediction ability. But somehow I feel like Kroma's way of doing this is more computer like and Plynx's is a little more intuitive. I don't really know what I base this sense on, but that's the impression I get from their playstyles.
It might be because of what chaoslord is talking about with him doing unconventional things.

Thank's for answer, it's really sad that you don't have it. Do you have any other long duels in replays (specially with Plynx)? In my opinions they are the most curious.

Thanks to everyone for introducing me to the new cards and other changes to the game. You can sort of divide Spectromancer's history according to who was the top player for any significant length of time, it goes like Plynx, SeaLeta, Kroma, Jeronimo.
Of those 4 you were the only one who never played any of the other 3, so there was always this lingering question of what would have happened if you were still playing. So it is very interesting for you to return for top players tournament. Nice to see you back and looking forward to seeing you play!
